The Robin property, farmed 100% organically and with some vineyards dating back to the 1940s, is just south of Tain, nestled against the hillsides of Hermitage and St. Joseph in "La Terrace de Chassis" district. The soils here are stony, sandy, and full of iron-rich red clay, which lends for the Syrah to have a broader, softer-edge texture, with a full concentration. Papillon comes from the younger vines, planted in 1996.
After a 30 minute decant, aromas of blackberry, currants, cherry and plum jump out of the glass. With more time open, you'll find really beautiful notes of wildflowers, fresh lavender, olive and a hint of black pepper. There is no shortage of concentration on this medium-bodied Syrah, as the finish lingers for quite some time, with just enough rusticity to let you know it means business.
